2012 Jaguar XF - Machine Review

The 2011 Jaguar XF intermediate has conventional rave reviews over the first two years of production. We like rich character, highlighted by items such as console-mounted start button pulsing red and circular gear selector that rises from the console when the machine came to life. At the same time as Jaguars used to sport sheet metal that played up their English heritage with retro-inspired styling, the XF is a clear departure from previous design cues. Through modern and aggressive styling, the Jaguar XF has the looks to back up its performance credentials. A sculpted hood and aluminum trim surround the side windows, and the front fender vents look similar to what’s found on the Jaguar XK. Despite being a four-door sedan, the XF’s coupe-like lines are generally liked by the press. One commentator notes that the Jag looks sportier than many of its rivals. A modern cockpit takes preference in the 2011 XF, which abandons Jaguar’s reputation for old world luxury. The interior features comfortable front seats, and the driver is surrounded by high quality materials. Push the start button in the XF, and the show begins: a nickel gear-selection knob rises out of the console and the vents on the dash rotate open as the engine springs to life. The XF has received a new set of engines, including a base 5.0-liter V8, good for 385 horsepower. Present is also a supercharged version of the 5.0-liter V8, good for 470 horsepower and is standard on the XF Supercharged model. The XF and XF Premium models will sprint from zero-to-60 in 5.5 seconds, with the XF Supercharged accomplishing the task in 4.9 seconds.
